The Petitcodiac River’s claim to fame is its tidal bore, forming twice a day as
the tides from the Bay of Fundy push up river towards Moncton..
The Petitcodiac River was listed in 2003 as the most endangered river in Canada by Earthwild International. The reason for having the petitcodiac is to catch fish such as Atlantic salmon, before the causeway was built there was many species like fish, eel, whales, dolphins, porpoise, seals.
the petitcodiac Eco system went down in 2010 but now its getting better, fish are entering the river again and spawning.
the Eco system is being protected to save the Atlantic salmon cause there going instinct because of the river pollution, but the river is getting better there used to be 20% but the salmon went down during the years but now there coming back to re-produce.the problems that people are concerned with are
Causeways, sewage discharges, abandoned dams and storm water runoff continued to harm the Petitcodiac River ecosystem in 2012.
